Where Does LibreCAD Store Config?

LibreCAD's alias file per OS, resource folders, and where autosaves land.

Last updated

LibreCAD scatters a few small files rather than one big config. Command aliases live in a per OS librecad.alias path documented in the command line guide, while hatch patterns, fonts, parts and templates can point at user folders you choose.

Main preferences ride on Qt settings storage, so the alias path below is the stable file to know. Autosaves and backups instead sit beside the drawing with # and ~ markers.

Where LibreCAD stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\LibreCAD\librecad.alias

Command alias file. Set extra resource paths under Options > Application Preferences > Paths. Backups append ~ and autosaves prefix # beside the drawing file.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/LibreCAD/librecad.alias

Same alias role. Recommended user resources under ~/LibreCAD subfolders like Translations. Exact Qt prefs location may vary by build, so prefer the in-app Preferences export.

Linux
~/.local/share/LibreCAD/LibreCAD/librecad.alias

Alias path from the official guide. Extra Paths tab appends user libraries without overriding defaults. Autosave interval lives in Application Preferences.

Frequently asked questions

Where are LibreCAD autosaves?

Beside the drawing itself. Autosaves prefix the filename with # on the configured interval, while close backups append ~. Neither replaces a real save.

How do I add custom hatch patterns or fonts?

Put them in a user folder like ~/LibreCAD and register it under Options > Application Preferences > Paths. The tab appends to defaults so stock resources keep working.
