Where Does lnd Store Config and Wallet Data?

lnd Lightning config, wallet, graph, backups and credential files.

Last updated

lnd centers on a conf file with data branching beneath per network. Wallet, graph, backup, logs, cert and macaroons each have fixed spots. A config file flag relocates the top.

Per-OS roots differ while the tree below stays constant. Network name folders separate mainnet from test chains. Keep the whole data dir together.

Where lnd stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.lnd/lnd.conf

Conf plus data tree per network with wallet, graph, backup, logs, cert and macaroons. Config file flag relocates top. Network folders separate chains.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Lnd/lnd.conf

Same tree under Application Support Lnd with data suffix. Config file flag works the same.

Windows
%LocalAppData%\Lnd\lnd.conf

Same tree under LocalAppData Lnd. Keep network folders matched across machines.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up lnd?

Stop the daemon, then copy config plus the full data dir. Wallet, graph, backup, cert and macaroons travel together. Restoring means putting everything back with matching network names.

channel.db or wallet.db?

Graph data and wallet data are different files. Channel.db tracks the network graph while wallet.db holds keys and channels. Back up both, never just one.
