Where Does Lufi Store Config and Files?

Lufi reads lufi.conf and persists the database plus files under /usr/lufi. Mount all three for upgrades to survive.

Last updated

Lufi centers on lufi.conf with secrets, contact info, file size caps, and retention delays (env vars override the same values in Docker). The database with file metadata lives under /usr/lufi/data, and encrypted uploads land in /usr/lufi/files. All three paths need persistent mounts.

Encryption shapes the backup: browsers encrypt before upload, so the server holds opaque blobs it cannot read. That privacy story cuts both ways. Nobody recovers expired or deleted files, including the admin. Set MAX_DELAY deliberately; unlimited retention fills disks with blobs nobody can even inspect to prune by content.

Where Lufi stores this, by platform

Linux
lufi.conf + /usr/lufi/data + /usr/lufi/files

Secrets, contact, size caps, retention. Env vars override in Docker. Rotate SECRET per instance. Back with the database and files as one unit; alone it restores settings with no content.

Frequently asked questions

how do i back up lufi

Copy lufi.conf, the database dir, and the files dir with the app stopped. Files are browser-encrypted blobs; the database maps them to links and expiries. One without the other restores either unreadable files or links to nothing.

which lufi settings must i change from defaults

Yes. SECRET encrypts session cookies and should be unique per instance; CONTACT and REPORT identify the operator; MAX_FILE_SIZE and delays set policy. Defaults run an open instance, so set these before exposing anything.
