Where Are Metro 2033 Save Files Located?
Original Metro 2033 saves in Documents while its config lives in Steam userdata, a split that confuses backup attempts.
Last updated
The original Metro 2033 splits its data in two places that have nothing to do with each other. Saves go to a 4A Games folder in Documents, while graphics settings live in a user.cfg inside the Steam userdata tree. Backing up one without the other produces a migrated game with progress but default options, or options and no progress.
This page covers the 2010 original, which was delisted after the Redux remaster. Redux keeps its own separate folders, so saves do not transfer between the two versions in either direction.
Where Metro 2033 stores this, by platform
C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\4A Games\Metro 2033
Saves here. Settings live apart in [Steam]/userdata/[ID]/43110/remote/user.cfg, so copy both locations for a full migration.
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/43110/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/4A Games/Metro 2033
Proton prefix for Steam Deck and Linux desktops, app ID 43110. The userdata config mirrors alongside it.
Frequently asked questions
Do Metro 2033 and Metro 2033 Redux share saves?
No. The remaster uses its own folders, so the original campaign must be replayed in Redux. Treat them as fully separate games for backup purposes.
Where is the Metro 2033 config file?
In userdata/[ID]/43110/remote/user.cfg for Steam, or LocalAppData/4A Games/Metro 2033 for GOG. FOV, motion blur and resolution tweaks all go there.
