Where Does Mieru Store Its Config?

Mieru client stores config in per-OS paths, with the mita server config at /etc/mita/server.conf.pb.

Last updated

Mieru splits client from server. The client keeps a binary conf.pb in the OS config location, different on Linux, Mac and Windows. The mita server keeps its own binary config at /etc/mita/server.conf.pb on Linux.

Prefer JSON patches for edits. Apply a small JSON file and let the tools merge it into the binary config. Direct binary edits are brittle. Describe commands show the live result before you restart.

Where Mieru stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/mieru/client.conf.pb

Binary client config plus server config at /etc/mita/server.conf.pb. Edit via apply config with JSON, then reload. Logs in ~/.cache/mieru.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/mieru/client.conf.pb

Binary client config managed with apply config. Restart client after changes. Logs in ~/Library/Caches/mieru.

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\mieru\client.conf.pb

Binary client config managed with apply config. Restart client after changes. Logs under AppData Local mieru folder.

Frequently asked questions

How do I migrate Mieru client settings?

Use mieru describe config to confirm the live settings, then copy the backing conf.pb file to the new machine. Restart with stop and start after copying. JSON overrides via MIERU_CONFIG_JSON_FILE also transfer.

How do I change mita server settings?

Use mita apply config with a JSON patch file, then reload so traffic keeps flowing. Check status to confirm the service runs. Logs via journalctl show whether the patch applied.
