Where Are Mindustry Save Files Located?
Where Mindustry keeps its campaign saves, settings.bin file, and backup twins on desktop and mobile.
Last updated
Mindustry keeps everything in one data folder: %APPDATA%\Mindustry on Windows, with saves/ for campaign sectors and settings.bin beside it. Every save writes a .backup twin, which is the built in recovery story.
Corruption reports almost always end at those backup files: rename and resume. The settings menu opens the data folder directly, so there is rarely a reason to type the path. Copy the whole folder with the game closed and the entire campaign moves. The twins update on every save.
Where Mindustry stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\Mindustry\saves
saves/ holds .msav sectors plus .backup twins; settings.bin holds options. The game folder is hidden, so paste %APPDATA%\Mindustry into Explorer. Steam and itch builds share it.
~/Library/Application Support/Mindustry/saves
Same saves and settings layout in the app support folder. Mobile builds keep data in app private storage with export via Settings instead. Desktop copies restore onto mobile only through the in game import.
~/.local/share/Mindustry/saves
Same tree under the home dot folder (or Android data dir for the mobile build). Show hidden files to browse it. The backup twin convention works identically across platforms.
Frequently asked questions
how do i back up mindustry saves
Copy the whole Mindustry data folder (%APPDATA%\Mindustry on Windows) to the same path with the game closed. Campaign .msav files, settings.bin, and backups travel together. The in game Settings menu can open the folder for you, which beats typing the path.
how do i restore a corrupted mindustry save
Rename the matching .backup.msav (campaign) or settings_backup.bin to the live name with the game closed. The game writes these alongside the originals on save. If neither exists, the data was deleted rather than corrupted.
what are msav files in mindustry
In saves/ as sector-serpulo-<n>.msav for campaign sectors plus custom map files. Each sector is its own file, so one corrupt sector never kills the campaign. Erekir sectors follow the same naming with their own prefix.
