Where Does MSI Afterburner Store Profiles?

Afterburner keeps overclock profiles and hardware configs as plain files in a Profiles folder inside its install directory.

Last updated

Afterburner ignores the registry completely. Every setting and overclock profile lives as files under a Profiles folder in the install directory, which makes backup a copy command and migration nearly as simple.

The numbered Profile files hold your five slots while a hardware named VEN file binds them to a specific GPU. RivaTuner Statistics Server rides along with its own parallel Profiles tree for the overlay side. Close both programs before copying or the files rewrite on exit.

Where MSI Afterburner stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner\Profiles

Profile1 through Profile5 plus the VEN hardware file live here. Copy with Afterburner closed; Program Files needs admin rights for the paste.

Frequently asked questions

How do I migrate profiles to a new PC?

Copy the Profiles folder and MSIAfterburner.cfg with Afterburner closed. On the new machine, launch once so it generates its hardware file, then overwrite with your VEN file and numbered profiles. Admin rights needed: Program Files guards writes.

What is the giant VEN file versus Profile1.cfg?

The numbered files hold your five slots while the VEN file binds them to a specific GPU by hardware ID. New card means a new VEN file, so old numbers import as a starting template rather than a working profile.
