Where Does Munin Store Config and Data?

Munin reads nodes from /etc/munin with collected RRD data in /var/lib/munin beside HTML output.

Last updated

Munin splits configuration from collected data cleanly. Node definitions live in munin.conf with conf.d snippets in /etc/munin. Collected RRD files accumulate under /var/lib/munin with generated HTML beside them.

Node side plugins configure in munin-node.conf on each monitored host. Master updates run on cron schedule by default. Back up the etc tree with the lib data folder for full restores.

Where Munin stores this, by platform

Linux
/etc/munin/munin.conf

Node definitions plus conf.d snippets live here. Collected RRD data sits in /var/lib/munin. Node plugins configure per host separately.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a Munin node?

Add its address block to munin.conf or conf.d, then wait for the next update cycle. Node plugins need enabling on the target host. Graphs appear after two cycles.

Where is Munin graph data?

As RRD files under /var/lib/munin per node and plugin. HTML output renders beside them. Copy both trees with the config for migration.
