Where Does mycli Store Config and History?
mycli keeps server favorites, query history, and display tweaks in dotfiles in your home directory, led by .myclirc.
Last updated
mycli uses classic Unix dotfiles instead of a config tree. The .myclirc file holds connection aliases, favorite queries, colors, and formatting. Command history accumulates in a companion history file in the same home directory.
That flat layout suits version control. Track .myclirc in your dotfiles repo and ignore the history file. Nothing credential-like lands in either file under default settings.
Where mycli stores this, by platform
~/.myclirc
Main config with aliases and favorite queries, plus a history file beside it. Track the rc file in dotfiles; leave history out.
~/.myclirc
Identical dotfile names as Linux. Homebrew installs read the same paths, so formulae swaps keep your setup.
%USERPROFILE%\.myclirc
Same dotfile names under the user profile. If your setup uses a custom HOME, the files follow it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I migrate mycli to a new computer?
Copy .myclirc and the history file to the new home directory. Re-enter passwords per server; mycli does not persist them in these files.
How do I clear mycli query history?
Truncate or delete the history file in your home directory while mycli is closed. Named queries live in .myclirc itself, so they survive the wipe.
