Where Does NetBox Store Config and Data?
NetBox keeps its Django config, uploaded media, and reports in the install tree, with everything else in PostgreSQL and Redis.
Last updated
A standard NetBox install lives in /opt/netbox: the Django package with configuration.py, a media folder for uploads, plus reports, scripts, and static files. Device data itself sits in PostgreSQL with cache in Redis.
That split decides backup duty. The tree covers config and uploads; the database covers everything else. Docker installs mirror the same layout inside volumes, so map both before snapshotting.

Frequently asked questions
How do I back up a NetBox instance?
Dump PostgreSQL, copy the install tree (configuration.py plus media and reports), then restore both on the new host. Either half alone leaves a broken install.
Where is the NetBox configuration file?
Edit configuration.py inside the netbox package folder and restart the services. Database, Redis, and secret key settings all live in that one file.
