Where Are Nova Drift Save Files Located?

Nova Drift stores progress in a save.ini file under LocalAppData on Windows and Application Support on Mac.

Last updated

Nova Drift keeps everything in one plain-text file called save.ini. Builds, unlocks, high scores, and settings all live there together, which makes backup trivial and editing tempting.

On Windows it sits in a NovaDrift folder under LocalAppData. The Mac build uses its Application Support directory instead. Either way, close the game before touching the file or your changes get overwritten on exit.

Where Nova Drift stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\NovaDrift\save.ini

Contains save.ini with progress, unlocks, and settings in one file. Show hidden files to see AppData, or paste the path straight into Explorer.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/com.pixeljam.stardriftmac/save.ini

Same save.ini layout as Windows. Open it with any text editor. Steam Cloud covers each platform separately, with no cross-platform sync.

Linux
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/858210/pfx/

Proton prefix for the Windows build (AppID 858210). The LocalAppData path above appears inside the prefix's virtual C: drive.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit save.ini to unlock everything?

Yes. Open it while the game is closed and raise the accountLevel value to unlock everything. Back the file up first, since a typo can wipe progress.

Does Steam Cloud sync my progress between Windows and Mac?

Steam Cloud exists but the two platforms do not sync with each other. Moving between Windows and Mac means copying the file by hand.
