Where Does Nuclear Store Playlists and Settings?

Where the Nuclear music player keeps playlists, cache and settings on desktop for migration.

Last updated

Nuclear is an Electron streaming player, so playlists, settings and artwork cache live in the per OS user data folder. Tracks stream from providers; only options and local lists need moving between machines.

Copy the data folder with the app closed for migration. Service logins may need refreshing when tokens bind to the old keyring. This post covers the Nuclear player, not the Nuclear Throne game with a similar name.

Where Nuclear stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\nuclear

Playlists and settings in Electron user data with cache beside them. Close the app before copying. Not the Nuclear Throne game; different developer entirely.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/nuclear

Same Electron layout under Application Support. Use Finder Go to Folder to reach it. Playlists sync from local files after signing in.

Linux
~/.config/nuclear

Same layout under XDG config. Respects custom XDG paths. Cache regrows on demand after clearing.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Nuclear to a new computer?

Close Nuclear and copy its user data folder elsewhere. Playlists and settings travel with it, streamed tracks rebuild on demand. Sign in again on services whose tokens live in system keyrings.

Where is the Nuclear music cache?

Open Settings inside Nuclear and read the cache location. Defaults sit under the app data folder, but the field always shows the live path. Clearing cache never touches playlists.
