Where Are Ostriv Save Files Located?

Ostriv writes towns to a save folder under Saved Games, with settings.data beside it and Steam Cloud plus Proton on other setups.

Last updated

Ostriv follows the Saved Games convention. Towns sit in a save subfolder, and a settings.data file beside it holds options. Both live under an Ostriv folder directly in Saved Games.

Early access updates occasionally reshape the town format, so old saves sometimes refuse to load after big patches. That is a version mismatch, not a lost folder. Keep a dated copy of the whole Ostriv folder before each major update and roll back by restoring it.

Where Ostriv stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Ostriv\save

Towns live in the save subfolder. The folder appears after the first save writes, so start a town before hunting for it.

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Ostriv\settings.data

Options file beside the save folder. Edit with the game closed and keep the original value handy.

Linux
<SteamLibrary>/steamapps/compatdata/773790/pfx/

Steam Play prefix, app ID 773790. The Saved Games tree is mirrored inside it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Ostriv towns to a new PC?

Copy the whole Saved Games\Ostriv folder to the same path with the game closed. Towns live in save and options in settings.data, so the pair travels together.

Where is the Ostriv settings file?

Open settings.data in the same folder with a text editor while the game is closed. Keep a copy of the original line first. Most options also exist in the in game menu, which is safer than hand editing.

Where are Ostriv saves on Steam Deck or Linux?

Use the Proton prefix with app ID 773790. The Saved Games tree is mirrored inside it. Steam Cloud and GOG Galaxy sync the same folder on Windows.
