Where Does PicGo Store Its Config File?

PicGo keeps uploader settings, API keys, and album rules in one config.json inside a .picgo folder in your home directory.

Last updated

PicGo stores everything that matters in a single JSON file. Uploader credentials, default album behavior, plugin options, and shortcut choices all live in config.json inside a dot-folder in your home directory, identical on every desktop OS.

That makes the app pleasantly boring to manage. One file to back up, one file to delete for a reset. Uploaded images themselves stay on whatever cloud or host you picked, never in this folder, so a lost config never costs you pictures.

Where PicGo stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\.picgo\config.json

Single config.json with uploader keys and rules. Same home-folder layout on all desktop systems; copy the folder to migrate.

macOS
~/.picgo/config.json

Same file and role as Windows. Symlinking it into dotfile repos works fine since PicGo reads it on every launch.

Linux
~/.picgo/config.json

Same path pattern. Keep permissions tight (600) since the file can hold cloud API secrets in plain text.

Frequently asked questions

How do I migrate PicGo to a new computer?

Copy the whole .picgo folder to the same location on the new machine before launching PicGo. Your uploader keys and custom rules come along intact.

How do I reset PicGo settings?

Quit PicGo and delete config.json inside .picgo. The next launch walks through setup again while leaving uploaded remote images untouched.
