Where Are Pillars of Eternity II Save Files Located?
Pillars of Eternity II keeps game saves in Saved Games with a read-only flag bug that eats quicksaves.
Last updated
Deadfire stores saves in %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity II, with config in the registry and Unity prefs on other platforms. Mac uses ~/Library/Application Support and Linux its XDG data root with the same contents.
Two bugs define the folder's reputation. Windows marks it read-only and quicksaves start vanishing, and rapid re-saves on one map eat their predecessors. Clear the flag, slow down, and copy the tree whole. Pillars 1 imports read the sibling Saved Games folder, which the importer expects beside Deadfire's own.
Where Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity II
Saves in the Saved Games root with registry config. Clear read-only flags to stop disappearing saves. Pillars 1 imports read the sibling folder.
~/Library/Application Support/Pillars of Eternity II/Saved Games
Same save contents under Application Support. Move cloud-dropped saves into the local path manually before loading.
~/.local/share/PillarsOfEternityII/SavedGames
Same save contents under the XDG data root. Cross-desktop copies work with a manual move into place.
Frequently asked questions
Deadfire deletes my saves when I save twice. How do I stop it?
Uncheck read-only on the Pillars of Eternity II folder and wait between saves. Saving twice within a minute on the same map can delete saves; move the party and pause before the next one.
Do Deadfire saves transfer between PC and Mac?
Copy the Saved Games tree; the format crosses desktops. One caveat: Windows cloud saves landing on Mac or Linux need a manual move into the local saved-games path before they load.
