Where Does Postbox Store Mail and Profiles?
Postbox profile folders on Windows and Mac, and the version folder name change to know.
Last updated
Postbox keeps mail, accounts and settings in a profile folder under the platform's standard app data root. Windows uses Roaming AppData and macOS uses Application Support, both holding downloaded mail alongside configuration. Knowing the folder location turns migrations into a single copy operation.
One naming trap spans versions. Older Postbox 5 installs used a Postbox folder while current builds use PostboxApp in the identical parent directory. The AppData and Library parents stay hidden by default, so paste the paths rather than browsing for them.
Where Postbox stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\PostboxApp
Holds profiles with mail storage and settings together. Older version 5 installs use a Postbox folder in the same parent instead of PostboxApp. Close Postbox fully before copying anything.
~/Library/Application Support/PostboxApp
Reach it through Go to Folder in Finder with the path, since Library stays hidden. Same Postbox versus PostboxApp version split as Windows applies here.
Frequently asked questions
how do i move postbox to a new computer
Copy the profile folder to the same path on the new machine with Postbox closed. Mail, accounts, filters and local folders travel together in that one directory, so a single folder copy is the whole migration.
postbox folder versus postboxapp folder, which is mine
Postbox 5 and older used a folder named Postbox in the same parent locations. Version 6 renamed it to PostboxApp. Upgrades migrate automatically, but manual backup hunters must check both names before concluding anything is missing.
