Proton Pass is cloud first and end to end encrypted, so the local folders are a cache, not the vault itself. The desktop app follows Electron conventions per OS, while the CLI keeps sessions in its own proton-pass-cli directory.
Actual secrets sit in the OS key store: Windows Credential Manager, macOS Keychain, or libsecret on Linux. Deleting the cache logs you out but never deletes the vault, which is the safe way to think about these paths.

Electron userData default. Exact folder name may vary slightly by installer build, so confirm via the installed app folder if this misses. Keys live in Windows Credential Manager. Paid plans can use the app offline from this cache.

Frequently asked questions
Will deleting the Proton Pass folder delete my passwords?
No. It only clears the local cache and logs you out. Your vaults stay encrypted on Proton servers and resync on next login, provided you still know the account password.
Where is the Proton Pass CLI session?
macOS keeps it in Library/Application Support/proton-pass-cli/.session and Linux in .local/share/proton-pass-cli/.session. Override with PROTON_PASS_SESSION_DIR if you isolate installs.
