Where Does Pulsar Store Settings and Packages?

Pulsar keeps config.cson, init scripts, and packages in a .pulsar folder in your home directory.

Last updated

Pulsar inherited Atom's layout. Everything lives in .pulsar at your home root: ~/.pulsar on macOS and Linux, %USERPROFILE%\.pulsar on Windows. Settings go in config.cson, custom commands in init.coffee, keybindings in keymap.cson, and packages in packages/ and node_modules/.

CSON is CoffeeScript-flavored JSON: indentation instead of braces, comments allowed. Edit through the settings UI or by hand; both write the same files. For a carry-anywhere setup, place .pulsar beside the executable (or pass --portable) and the install becomes self-contained.

Where Pulsar stores this, by platform

macOS
~/.pulsar

config.cson, init.coffee, keymap.cson, snippets.cson, plus packages/. ATOM_HOME relocates the whole tree.

Linux
~/.pulsar

Same files as macOS. Portable mode uses a .pulsar folder next to the binary instead.

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\.pulsar

Same layout under your profile. Dot folders are hidden in Explorer; paste the path directly.

Frequently asked questions

How do I migrate Pulsar to a new machine?

Copy the whole .pulsar folder onto the new machine with Pulsar closed, then launch. Settings, keymaps, snippets, and the package list travel together. Reinstall packages through the built-in manager afterward.

Can I run two separate Pulsar profiles?

Set the ATOM_HOME environment variable to a different folder before launching. Pulsar reads and writes everything there instead, which keeps profiles (say work versus personal) fully separate.
