Where Is the pulsemixer Config File?

pulsemixer TUI optional config file with keys, UI and renames.

Last updated

pulsemixer reads an optional config that it never creates on its own. General, keys, UI, style and rename sections live there when present.

Generate the starter with the create flag, then edit. Live mixer state stays in PulseAudio itself. This file covers presentation and bindings only.

Where pulsemixer stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/pulsemixer.cfg

Optional INI style file for general, keys, UI, style and renames. Never auto created, use the create flag once. Respects XDG config home. Live state stays in PulseAudio.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up pulsemixer?

Create the file once with the create flag, then copy it elsewhere. The app never writes it by itself. Restoring means putting the file back before launch.

Why is there no config file?

It stays absent until created explicitly. Defaults apply in the meantime. That surprises people hunting for a file that was never generated.
