Where Does Quake Champions Store Config and Progress?

Quake Champions keeps local config files under LocalAppData while all progress stays on Bethesda's servers.

Last updated

Quake Champions is a live multiplayer shooter, so there is no local save file to lose. Champions, ranks, and loadouts live on Bethesda's servers and follow your account.

What does live on your disk is configuration: graphics, keybinds, and client settings under an id Software folder in LocalAppData. That folder is worth copying when migrating machines, purely to skip the settings screens. Progress needs no backup at all.

Where Quake Champions stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\id Software\Quake Champions

Local settings only. Progress is server-side, so this folder matters for keybinds and graphics, not for ranks or unlocks.

Linux
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/611500/pfx/

Proton prefix for the Windows build (AppID 611500). The LocalAppData path above appears inside the prefix's virtual C: drive.

Frequently asked questions

Will editing the config get me banned?

Tweaking files in LocalAppData only changes local settings like video and keybinds. Rank, champions, and inventory are server-side and unaffected either way.

How do I move to a new PC without losing anything?

Log back in on the new machine and everything account-bound follows. Copy the LocalAppData folder only if you want your exact graphics and key settings back.
