Where Does Quickemu Store Virtual Machines?
Quickemu virtual machine folders and config paths on Linux for quickemu and quickget VM image downloads.
Last updated
Quickemu keeps virtual machines in plain folders. The default root is ~/quickemu with one conf file per VM. Disk images sit beside the conf as qcow2 files. ISOs fetched by quickget land in the same tree.
Per user settings live in ~/.config/quickemu with defaults for viewer and acceleration. The conf file points at disks by relative path, so moving the folder keeps VMs working. Back up the whole quickemu folder to preserve machines and snapshots. ISOs refetch but disks do not. Snapshots sit beside disks for fast rollback.
Where Quickemu stores this, by platform
~/quickemu
Default VM root with conf files, qcow2 disks, and downloaded ISOs. Copy whole folder with VMs shut down. Relative disk paths survive folder moves.
~/.config/quickemu/quickemu.conf
Viewer defaults and acceleration options. Created on first run. Keep with VM folders when migrating to a new host.
Frequently asked questions
where are my Quickemu virtual machines
Look in ~/quickemu for .conf files and disk images. Each VM gets a conf file plus qcow2 disks beside it. Run quickemu --vm with the conf name to boot. Copy the whole folder to move VMs.
can I change Quickemu disk size
Yes. Edit the conf file disk_size line before first boot, or grow the qcow2 later with qemu-img. ISOs downloaded by quickget sit in the same folder. Keep ISOs to rebuild fast.
