Where Does Quicksilver Store Its Catalog and Triggers?

Where Quicksilver keeps its catalog, triggers and plugins on Mac, and how to rebuild them.

Last updated

Quicksilver centers on its catalog: indexed apps, files, scripts and contacts under Application Support, with triggers, plugins and preferences beside them. A preferences plist mirrors global options. All of it sits under Library.

The catalog index rebuilds itself, but triggers do not. Back up the support folder before any reset; rescans restore found items while hand tuned triggers need the copy. Grant Full Disk Access again after migration or indexing silently stops.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Quicksilver

Catalog, triggers and plugins in one folder, options in the blacktree plist. Rescan fixes missing apps, the folder copy saves triggers. Re-grant privacy rights after moving.

Frequently asked questions

How do I migrate Quicksilver to a new Mac?

Quit Quicksilver and copy its Application Support folder plus the blacktree plist. Catalog, triggers and plugin state travel with the folder. Re-grant accessibility rights on the new Mac before testing triggers.

Quicksilver cannot find my apps. How do I fix the catalog?

Open Preferences, Catalog, and rescan, or quit and delete the catalog index inside Application Support. Custom catalog entries survive a rescan, a full folder wipe does not. Back up first when triggers took years to tune.
