Where Does RabbitMQ Store Data and Config?

RabbitMQ message store files and broker config paths on Linux for AMQP queues, users, policies, and vhosts.

Last updated

RabbitMQ keeps broker state in a Mnesia database folder. Package installs use /var/lib/rabbitmq/mnesia with one node folder inside. Queues, users, and policies all live there.

Service config lives in /etc/rabbitmq with rabbitmq.conf and enabled_plugins. Those files decide ports and plugins. Back up the database folder with configs. Node names embed hostnames, so restores prefer matching names. Shovel moves messages between brokers. Federation links clusters across data centers. Exchanges route by binding keys.

Where RabbitMQ stores this, by platform

Linux
/var/lib/rabbitmq/mnesia

Queue database with one folder per node name. Stop the broker before copying for consistency. Definitions export complements raw copies.

Linux
/etc/rabbitmq/rabbitmq.conf

Broker ports, TLS, and plugin list for the node. Holds the mnesia dir override when changed. Keep with database backups.
