Where Are Raft Save Files Located?

Raft files worlds and characters as separate .rgd files per Steam user ID, with dots in names breaking loads.

Last updated

Redbeet splits Raft persistence in two. World files live in a World folder, character files in a Player folder, both under a User ID directory. Mixing timestamps between the pair loses items, so move them as a set.

Filenames matter unusually here: extra dots hide worlds from the loader entirely. Updates historically break old saves, so major patches deserve a backup first. Linux players find the same tree inside the Proton prefix.

Where Raft stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Redbeet Interactive\Raft\User

World .rgd files and Player files pair by timestamp, so move them together. Filenames must end .rgd with no extra dots.

Linux
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/648800/pfx/

Steam Play prefix for app 648800 with the same User tree inside. Pair world and player files when transferring.

Frequently asked questions

My world does not appear in the load menu. Why?

Strip extra dots so the file ends .rgd exactly once. The loader chokes on names like Wor.ld.rgd. Rename, reload, and the world appears.

How do I roll back a corrupted world?

Delete the folder with Latest in its name inside the world folder. That forces the game onto the previous snapshot. Official support documents this recovery for corrupted latest saves.
