Where Does Recyclarr Store Its Config?

Recyclarr keeps recyclarr.yml, configs, and sync state in one directory. Docker uses /config; bare installs use the OS config folder.

Last updated

Recyclarr separates user files from regenerable files. The config directory holds recyclarr.yml, the configs/ folder, templates, settings.yml, and sync state: everything worth backing up. The data directory holds logs and downloaded guide resources, which Recyclarr can fetch again. By default both point at the same place.

Docker maps that place to /config. Bare installs follow OS convention instead: ~/.config/recyclarr on Linux, %APPDATA%\recyclarr on Windows, ~/Library/Application Support/recyclarr on macOS. Override either side with RECYCLARR_CONFIG_DIR or RECYCLARR_DATA_DIR when the default layout does not fit your backup scheme.

Where Recyclarr stores this, by platform

Linux
/config (Docker volume)

recyclarr.yml, configs/, includes/, settings.yml, and state/. Optionally split disposables (logs, resources) out with RECYCLARR_DATA_DIR. Run as UID:GID matching the host so created files stay readable.

Windows
%APPDATA%\recyclarr

Same file layout as Docker under the Windows roaming profile. Secrets belong in secrets.yml beside recyclarr.yml so API keys never leak into shared configs.

Frequently asked questions

how do i migrate recyclarr to a new machine

Copy the whole config directory (recyclarr.yml, configs/, includes/, settings.yml, state/) with Recyclarr idle. Restore to the same path on the new host. Logs and downloaded resources regenerate, so they are safe to skip.

should i separate recyclarr config from data

Either split them or accept one folder. Set RECYCLARR_CONFIG_DIR for backups (config plus state) and RECYCLARR_DATA_DIR for disposables (logs, resources). Unset, both live together under /config.
