Where Does Rocknix Store ROMs and Saves?

Rocknix keeps ROMs, saves and config on the storage partition at /storage, separate from boot files. What lives where.

Last updated

Rocknix boots from a small system side and keeps everything personal on the storage partition mounted at /storage. ROMs per system, BIOS files, savefiles and screenshots all branch from there, with system config in .config.

Reach storage over the network share or by plugging the card into another machine. First boot expands storage to fill the drive. External drives can extend ROMs while saves stay internal by design.

Where Rocknix stores this, by platform

Linux
/storage/roms

ROMs per system, bios, savefiles and screenshots below it. Reach it at the network share name or over SSH. Survives updates intact.

Linux
/storage/savefiles

Save files and save states tree. Back this up alongside roms. Per core overrides live in the sibling .config tree rather than here.

Frequently asked questions

How do I migrate Rocknix to a bigger card?

Copy the roms, bios, savefiles and .config trees from /storage to the new card after its first boot. The layout ports across Rocknix versions. Keep device specific configs in .config separate when moving between handheld models.

My fresh card has no roms folder. Why?

Boot once first. The storage tree with roms and saves only materializes on first boot, so an unbooted card shows nearly nothing. Size the card before copying libraries.
