Where Is the Samsung Gallery Trash Folder?

Samsung Gallery trash on Galaxy phones: where deleted photos wait 30 days and the hidden on disk path.

Last updated

Samsung Gallery moves deleted photos and videos to Trash instead of erasing them. Items wait 30 days, then vanish for good. The Gallery Trash and My Files Trash show overlapping views of the same deletions.

On disk the trashed files hide under a dot folder with random numeric names and the original extension. File managers that hide dot folders miss it entirely. Use the Gallery Menu Trash screen for restores, not the raw folder.

Where Samsung Gallery stores this, by platform

Android
/storage/emulated/0/Android/.Trash/com.sec.android.gallery3d

Tested on Gallery v15 with Android 14. Names become long random numbers with the same extension. Enable show hidden files to see the .Trash parent. Restore through Gallery, not by renaming.

Frequently asked questions

How do I restore deleted Gallery photos?

Open Gallery, tap Menu, then Trash. Tap Edit, select items and tap Restore. My Files Trash shows the same Gallery items alongside documents and voice recordings.

How do I free space after deleting photos?

Open Gallery Trash and tap Empty, or pick items and Delete. Deleting only frees space after the bin empties or the 30 day window expires. The bin cannot be turned off.
