Where Does Sequel Ace Store Connections and Favorites?

Sequel Ace stores connection favorites in a Favorites.plist inside its macOS sandbox container. Passwords live in Keychain.

Last updated

Sequel Ace is sandboxed, so its favorites live deep inside its container rather than in the plain Application Support folder older guides mention. The file is Favorites.plist, a standard plist you can copy between machines. Passwords are deliberately not in it. Those sit in your login Keychain.

The sandboxing has one sharp edge: Sequel Ace cannot see socket files outside its container, so local MySQL over /tmp/mysql.sock fails. Either point the server socket inside the container path or switch the connection to TCP on 127.0.0.1.

Where Sequel Ace stores this, by platform

macOS
~/Library/Containers/com.sequel-ace.sequel-ace/Data/Library/Application Support/Sequel Ace/Data/Favorites.plist

Connection favorites without passwords. Passwords live in login.keychain-db. Query history and pinned tables sit beside it as .db files. Copy Favorites.plist with the app quit to migrate from another Mac.

Frequently asked questions

How do I migrate from Sequel Pro to Sequel Ace?

Quit both apps, then copy ~/Library/Application Support/Sequel Pro/Data/Favorites.plist over Sequel Ace's Favorites.plist in the container path above. Passwords stay in Keychain under Sequel Pro names, so expect to re-enter them once per connection.

Why can't Sequel Ace connect through /tmp/mysql.sock?

macOS sandboxing blocks sockets outside its container. Set the server socket inside ~/Library/Containers/com.sequel-ace.sequel-ace/Data, or simpler, use a Standard TCP connection to 127.0.0.1 port 3306 with networking enabled in my.cnf.
