Where Does Snipaste Store Its Config File?

Snipaste keeps all settings in a config.ini beside its exe, movable anywhere. Finding it, history folders and reset fixes.

Last updated

Snipaste stores every setting in a single config.ini sitting next to Snipaste.exe. That makes the app effectively portable: copy the folder and settings travel along. The Store edition instead nests its config under its Packages container, which is the only layout exception.

Settings that reset on restart mean one thing: Snipaste can't write its own folder. Keep it out of Program Files, fix disk permissions, or run elevated once. Open the file any time through Preferences > General > Configuration Storage > Open, and redirect it with --config for multi-machine setups.

Where Snipaste stores this, by platform

Windows
<Snipaste folder>\config.ini

Beside Snipaste.exe in classic installs; Store builds use %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\45479liulios...\LocalState. Symlinks and --config=/path/to/config.ini both redirect it.

Frequently asked questions

Snipaste forgets settings on restart, how do I fix it?

Give Snipaste write access to its folder: move it out of Program Files, repair disk permissions, or run as admin once. The config.ini must be writable or defaults return every launch. Check the Task Scheduler entry for startup variants.

Where does Snipaste save snip history?

In the history folder set by history_dir in config.ini (./history by default, which you must create yourself). Only absolute paths with / or \\ separators stick; non-English characters in the path break it.
