Where Are Windows Spotlight Images Stored?

Windows Spotlight lock screen photos hide as extensionless files in the ContentDeliveryManager Assets folder.

Last updated

Windows Spotlight lock screen photos are already on your disk. They download into an Assets folder under the ContentDeliveryManager package, stored without file extensions under hashed names.

Sorting by size finds the wallpapers among smaller icons and thumbnails. Copy the big ones out and rename with .jpg to keep them. The folder refills itself, so there is no need to hoard originals in place.

Where Windows stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Assets

Extensionless cached images; sort by size to find full wallpapers. Copy out and append .jpg to keep favorites. The cache refills on its own.

Frequently asked questions

How do I save a Spotlight image I like?

Copy them elsewhere and add .jpg to each copy. The originals stay extensionless in Assets; renaming in place breaks nothing, but copies keep things clean.
