Where Are Stacklands Save Files Located?

Stacklands keeps save_N.sav files in LocalLow under sokpop, with autosaves in a Mods subfolder and old builds in the registry.

Last updated

Stacklands saves are small numbered files in LocalLow under the sokpop folder. Each save_N.sav is one village. An AutoSave folder one level down under Mods keeps rolling copies, which is the recovery path when the main file goes missing.

Very old itch builds stored saves in the Windows registry instead, a layout the Steam release abandoned. If a guide sends you to regedit, it predates the Steam file layout. Modern installs never need the registry touched for saves.

Where Stacklands stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\sokpop\Stacklands

save_N.sav files are villages. AutoSave copies sit in Mods AutoSave below. Duplicate and renumber files to clone slots.

Linux
<SteamLibrary>/steamapps/compatdata/1948280/pfx/

Proton prefix for app ID 1948280. Search the prefix drive for sokpop when saves seem missing after a Deck wipe.

Frequently asked questions

How do I copy a Stacklands village to a new slot?

Duplicate a save file and renumber it to a free slot, such as save_0.sav to save_1.sav. The game lists every numbered file as a loadable slot.

My save vanished. Where is the autosave backup?

Copy the newest autosave over a save_N.sav file one folder up. Autosaves live in the Mods AutoSave folder and survive most wipeouts.

Are saves really in the Windows registry?

Only itch 1.0.3 era builds. Steam builds use files in LocalLow. Registry keys under HKCU SOFTWARE sokpop Stacklands belong to the old layout.
