Where Are Streets of Rage 4 Save Files Located?

Streets of Rage 4 keeps one Save.bin in Documents on Windows, with XDG and Mac paths on other desktops.

Last updated

Streets of Rage 4 follows the Dotemu house pattern: a single Save.bin file plus Config.txt in a Documents folder named Streets of Rage 4 Save and Config. One file for progress, one for options, nothing else to manage.

Other platforms mirror the same pair of files under OS-appropriate roots, with Linux following XDG conventions. The Microsoft Store build is the odd one out, hiding saves in an encrypted container instead.

Where Streets of Rage 4 stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\Streets of Rage 4 Save and Config

Save.bin for progress, Config.txt for options. The Microsoft Store build instead uses an encrypted container under Local/Packages.

Linux
~/.local/share/Streets of Rage 4 Save and Config

XDG data path on native Linux builds. Same Save.bin plus Config.txt pair, fully interchangeable with Windows.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Streets of Rage 4 Save and Config

Mac path under Application Support. Copy the pair across platforms to move a completed roster between machines.

Frequently asked questions

Which file holds my Streets of Rage 4 progress?

Save.bin in the Save and Config folder. Config.txt beside it holds options only, so back up Save.bin at minimum.

Do Steam and Game Pass versions share saves?

Not automatically. The Store build encrypts saves in its own container, so switching stores means starting fresh unless you convert manually.
