Where Does SunVox Save Songs and Instruments?

SunVox is portable and saves .sunvox songs where you tell it, with examples bundled next to the executable.

Last updated

SunVox has no fixed project library. You unpack the zip where you want and save .sunvox files to any folder. Most people use Documents/SunVox on desktop or an equivalent music folder. The download bundle includes examples and instruments next to the binary.

On Android the app works inside scoped storage, so use the in-app file browser and export finished songs to Music or Downloads. Back up the actual .sunvox and .sunsynth files. The app folder alone will not save your work.

Where SunVox stores this, by platform

Windows
Documents\SunVox (user chosen)

SunVox is portable, often run from a user folder. Songs save as .sunvox wherever you pick. Keep examples and your own songs in separate folders to avoid mixing them on update.

macOS
~/Documents/SunVox (user chosen)

Same portable layout as Windows. The zip unpacks to a sunvox folder. Save your tracks outside that folder so replacing the app does not delete them.

Linux
~/sunvox (user chosen)

Official docs suggest unpacking to the home directory. Songs go where you save them. Make the binary executable with chmod if it refuses to launch after unpacking.

Android
App storage, export to Music or Downloads

Use Open and Save inside SunVox, then export or share finished files out. Scoped storage hides the private folder. Keep the exported .sunvox copies as the real backup.

Frequently asked questions

Where are SunVox example songs?

Inside the unpacked sunvox folder next to the executable, usually in examples. Copy any example you want to edit into your own folder first. Updates overwrite the bundled folder.

How do I move SunVox to a new computer?

Copy your .sunvox songs and .sunsynth instruments to the new machine. Re-download the app zip there. There is no registry or hidden config you need to migrate for the songs themselves.
