Where Does Task Store Config and Output?
Task Taskfile.yml plus task cache inside your project on Windows, macOS and Linux.
Last updated
Task reads Taskfile.yml at the project root with includes beside it. User config sits in the home task dir when set.
Cache and checksum state live under .task in the project. The folder is portable. Moving machines needs only the repo plus the Task binary.
Where Task stores this, by platform
[ProjectDir]\Taskfile.yml
Config at root (also Taskfile.yaml, Taskfile.dist variants). Cache is [ProjectDir]\.task\. Keep Taskfile in git; ignore .task.
[ProjectDir]/Taskfile.yml
Same layout. User config optionally in ~/.config/task/. Fresh clones run with only Task installed.
[ProjectDir]/Taskfile.yml
Same arrangement. CI runs task with the same file. Exclude .task and .env from version control.
Frequently asked questions
Where is Task config?
At Taskfile.yml in the project root. Includes and vars sit beside it. Global config is optional and rarely needed.
My Task run looks stale. What do I delete?
Delete the .task dir and rerun. Checksum state goes stale in confusing ways. Task rebuilds it cleanly on the next run.
