Where Does Tea Keep Its Config?
Tea keeps Gitea logins and preferences in a config file under the config home. The file path per desktop OS.
Last updated
Tea is a small Go binary with one YAML config. Logins per Gitea host, default output flags and editor choices live there. Nothing else persists between commands.
That single file design makes moves one copy. The config home differs per OS while the filename stays constant. Tokens inside deserve the same care as passwords, so lock down home permissions.
Where Tea stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\tea\config.yml
Logins per host plus output and editor preferences in one YAML file. Back it up directly. Repositories themselves live in their clone folders outside config.
~/Library/Application Support/tea/config.yml
Same filename on Mac under Application Support. Keep file permissions tight since tokens sit inside in plain text.
~/.config/tea/config.yml
Follows XDG config home. Distro packages share this layout. Pair config backups with SSH keys for full Forge moves.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move Tea logins?
Copy the config file to the same relative path on the new machine. Logins and default scope travel with it. Tokens may ask for reentry depending on credential storage, so keep the Gitea web fallback handy.
Where are my repositories?
In the repository working folders themselves, managed by git rather than Tea. Tea only holds connection profiles and output preferences. Clone folders stay outside the config tree.
