Where Does Tera Term Store Settings and Logs?

Tera Term keeps connection settings in TERATERM.INI beside the program, with profiles and logs wherever you save them on Windows.

Last updated

Tera Term follows an old-school portable layout. Global defaults live in TERATERM.INI inside the install folder (or a user copy), while saved connections, macros, and logs go wherever you put them when saving.

That freedom means there is no single data folder to memorize. Back up the INI for settings, plus your macro folder and log folder. A fresh install regenerates defaults, so missing files only cost customization.

Where Tera Term stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Program Files (x86)\teraterm\TERATERM.INI

Global defaults; per-user copies live beside it or in Documents depending on install options. Saved .ttl macros and session logs sit in folders you choose at save time.
