Where Does The Bat! Store Mail and Accounts?

The Bat! keeps accounts in a mail directory with message bases per folder, all on your own disk.

Last updated

The Bat! stores mail locally by design, in a mail directory holding one message base per folder plus account settings and templates. Nothing syncs anywhere unless you configured IMAP.

That local-first layout makes the mail directory the whole archive. POP accounts live there exclusively, with no server copy behind them. Copy the directory before reinstalling Windows; the program restores itself around whatever folder you point it at.

Windows
Mail directory (message bases + accounts)

Message bases, accounts, filters, and templates in one directory. POP mail exists only here. Copy with the program closed for migration.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move everything to a new PC?

Copy the entire mail directory with the program closed. Accounts, messages, filters, and templates travel together; point the new install at the same folder to resume exactly.
