Where Does Thorium Store Browser Profiles?

Where the Thorium browser keeps profiles, cache and settings on desktop.

Last updated

Thorium is a Chromium fork, so it uses the standard Chromium User Data layout: one folder per profile with Default for the first. History, bookmarks, cookies and extensions all live under there. Cache sits inside each profile on Windows and under the system cache roots on Mac and Linux.

The reliable move is checking chrome://version inside Thorium itself. Command line flags and enterprise policy can relocate User Data, and that page always shows the live path. Close the browser before copying anything.

Where Thorium stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Thorium\User Data\

Chromium layout with Default and Profile N subfolders. Confirm the live path at chrome://version since --user-data-dir overrides it. Close Thorium before copying or wiping.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Thorium/

Same profile structure under Application Support. Cache also mirrors to ~/Library/Caches/Thorium per profile. Use Go to Folder in Finder to jump there.

Linux
~/.config/thorium/

Parent may shift with XDG_CONFIG_HOME. Each profile keeps its own Cache subfolder here rather than a split cache root. Export passwords separately before migrating.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my exact Thorium profile path?

Type chrome://version and read the Profile Path line. The parent folder is your User Data dir. Thorium follows Chromium layout, so this beats memorizing per-OS defaults that flags can override.

How do I migrate Thorium to a new PC?

Copy the User Data folder to the same OS path on the new machine while Thorium is closed. Logins tied to OS keychain encryption may still need a fresh sign in, which is normal for Chromium clones.
