Where Does Tokodon Store Accounts and Cache?

Tokodon keeps Mastodon accounts and timeline cache in KDE config and data homes on Linux.

Last updated

Tokodon follows KDE conventions: accounts and preferences in tokodonrc under the config home, cached avatars and timelines in a tokodon folder under the data home. Posts themselves stay on your instance.

Migration is a two-folder copy plus fresh logins, since OAuth tokens expire. Cache clearing is safe anytime; the app rebuilds it from the instance on next scroll. Timelines never need manual backup.

Where Tokodon stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/tokodonrc

tokodonrc with accounts and preferences; cached media and timelines in the data home. Re-authenticate after migrating; tokens expire.

Frequently asked questions

How do I migrate Tokodon to a new computer?

Copy tokodonrc plus the tokodon data folder to the same paths on the new machine, then launch and re-authenticate accounts. Timelines refetch from instances.

How do I clear Tokodon cache?

Clear the cache inside the data folder with Tokodon closed. Accounts and preferences in the config survive; only media and timelines re-download.
