Where Does UrBackup Store Server Backups?

UrBackup server storage root and client database paths on Linux and Windows for image and file backups.

Last updated

UrBackup splits storage between server and clients. The server keeps all images and file backups under one storage root. Linux defaults to /var/urbackup with the server database beside it. Windows installs use a folder under Program Files with the same layout.

Clients keep a small local database with file hashes for incremental runs. That cache lives in /usr/local/var/urbackup on Linux and Program Files on Windows. Back up the server root with its database. Client caches rebuild on their own and need no backup.

Where UrBackup stores this, by platform

Linux
/var/urbackup

Default server storage with per client subfolders plus urbackup_server.db. Check Settings when missing since the path is configurable. Stop the server before copying.

Windows
C:\Program Files\UrBackupServer\urbackup

Windows server root with backups folder and server database. Client program data sits in a parallel UrBackup folder. Keep server_ident files with the database.

Frequently asked questions

where does the UrBackup server save backups

Open the server web UI under Settings, General to read the backup storage path. Linux defaults to /var/urbackup, Windows to the install drive folder. Client caches sit separately on each machine.

what do i back up for an UrBackup server move

Copy the storage root with urbackup_server.db and the server_ident files. The database maps hashes to client files. Storage alone without the database is hard to browse.
