Where Are Viewfinder Save Files Located?

Where Viewfinder keeps save slots and backups on PC, and how the Epic build path differs from Steam.

Last updated

Viewfinder stores saves directly in its LocalLow company folder. Slot files use the .sav extension with .bak backups beside them. There is no nested SaveGames tree to dig through.

The Epic build adds one subfolder. Steam and GOG builds write to the Viewfinder root, while Epic writes to an Epic Games Store child. Settings live in the registry rather than an ini file, so the folder only covers progress. Delete a single slot by removing its .sav and .bak pair with the game closed and Cloud paused.

Where Viewfinder stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Sad Owl Studios\Viewfinder

Holds slot .sav files plus .bak backups in the folder root. The Epic Store build instead uses an Epic Games Store subfolder here. Settings live in the registry, not in this folder.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Viewfinder saves?

Copy the .sav files plus their .bak partners to a safe folder. Restoring means putting both back with the game closed. Cloud sync can overwrite a manual restore, so pause it until the restored slot loads once.

How do I reset one Viewfinder slot?

Delete the matching .sav and .bak pair for that slot while the game is closed. Steam Cloud keeps deleted slots otherwise, so disable it first or the slot comes back on next launch.
