Where Does VoceChat Store Data on Linux?

Where self-hosted VoceChat keeps uploads, database and config in a Docker install on Linux.

Last updated

VoceChat runs as one Rust binary, usually in Docker with a single data mount. Messages, accounts, uploaded files and the server secret all live under that mount. There is no separate database host to dump.

Your compose file decides the host path, so read it first. Example layouts use a vocechat-data folder beside the compose file. Back up with the container stopped for a consistent snapshot, and keep the secret with the data.

Where VoceChat stores this, by platform

Linux
/opt/vocechat/data

Host directory mapped to the container data dir in compose. Holds SQLite, uploads and secret. Stop the container before copying; live copies can split messages from files.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up VoceChat?

Stop the container and copy the host data directory plus your compose or run flags. The database, uploads and secret live together there. Files without the database restore as orphans with no chat history.

My VoceChat data path differs from examples. Which is correct?

Read the volumes line in your compose file. The host side is whatever you mapped; the container side stays fixed. Guides show examples, your file shows the live path.
