Last updated
On Windows all local VRChat storage branches from AppData\LocalLow\VRChat\VRChat. The Cache-WindowsPlayer folder holds downloaded avatars and worlds and is usually the largest folder.
Config, avatar parameters and moderation files sit in the same parent. Account data, friends and avatars themselves stay on VRChat servers.
Where VRChat stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\VRChat\VRChat\Cache-WindowsPlayer\
%USERPROFILE% is usually C:\Users\<username>. This cache can grow large. Location can be changed through config.json. Delete it to force redownload of avatars and worlds.
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\VRChat\VRChat\config.json
Holds app settings in JSON format. OSC, Avatars test files, LocalAvatarData and LocalPlayerModerations sit beside it in the same parent.
%USERPROFILE%\Pictures\VRChat\
Default output for the in game camera. %USERPROFILE% is usually C:\Users\<username>. Move or back up this folder separately from cache.
Frequently asked questions
How do I safely clear VRChat cache?
Close VRChat, then delete the contents of Cache-WindowsPlayer. Keep config.json and LocalAvatarData if you want to keep settings. The game rebuilds cache on next launch.
Can I move VRChat cache to another drive?
Yes. Edit the cache path in config.json to point to a folder on the target drive. Create the folder first, then relaunch the game.
