Where Are Wasteland 2 Save Files Located?

Wasteland 2 keeps .bin plus .xml pairs per save, with a fragile TOC index file that loves to break saves.

Last updated

Wasteland 2 stores saves in Documents\My Games\Wasteland2DC\Save Games (original: Wasteland2), each save a folder with a .bin and .xml pair. A TOC.txt index tracks them all, and when it corrupts, saves vanish while files sit perfectly healthy.

inXile's official fix is deleting TOC.txt and letting the game rebuild it. Mac and Linux use their own Application Support and .config trees with the same pair format. Copy whole save folders, never single files, since the pair must match. The Game Pass build encrypts its own variant, so Steam copies never load there.

Where Wasteland 2 stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Wasteland2DC\Save Games

Paired .bin and .xml per save plus a fragile TOC.txt index. Delete TOC to rebuild invisible saves. Original and DC trees stay separate; never mix them.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Wasteland2DC/Save Games

Same pair format under Application Support. The TOC rebuild fix works identically on Mac builds.

Linux
~/.config/Wasteland2DC/Save Games

Same pair format under the .config tree. Original builds drop the DC suffix; keep the trees apart.

Frequently asked questions

My Wasteland 2 saves vanished but files exist. How do I fix it?

Delete TOC.txt in the Save Games folder and relaunch. The game rebuilds the table of contents from the folders present. Corrupt TOC is the number-one cause of invisible saves.

Do original and Director's Cut saves mix?

No. Original and Director's Cut use Wasteland2 and Wasteland2DC folders with different formats. Achievement hunters keep both trees; moving files across breaks loads.
