Where Does Watson Store Frames and Config?
Watson time tracker keeps settings in a config file and time frames in a frames file, both inside a watson folder in config home.
Last updated
Watson stores everything locally in one config-home folder: a config file with backend and display options, and a frames file with every timed entry as JSON. No account, no cloud, just files.
The frames path itself is set in the config, so check there if your setup moved it. Back up both files together; config without frames loses history, frames without config loses backend pointers. CSV and JSON reports render from these same files.
Where Watson stores this, by platform
~/.config/watson
Config plus frames file (frames path is configurable; confirm with watson config). Back up both together with no timer running.
~/.config/watson
Same folder names as Linux. Config edits apply immediately; frames edits need Watson idle to stick.
%USERPROFILE%\.config\watson
Same role under the user profile. If your HOME is customized, both files follow it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move Watson history to a new computer?
Copy the whole watson config folder to the same spot on the new machine. Frames travel with it, so billed history survives the move intact.
How do I fix a mistyped Watson time entry?
Open the frames file in an editor while Watson is idle and fix the timestamps, keeping JSON valid. Restart any running timer first to avoid overwriting your edit.
