Where Is the Windows Send To Folder?
The SendTo folder on Windows, reaching it with shell:SendTo, and adding your own destinations.
Last updated
The Send to menu reads its entries from a SendTo folder in Roaming AppData, one shortcut per destination. Every item you see on right click maps to a file there, nothing more exotic.
Adding destinations is plain shortcut work: drop a shortcut to any folder, app or script into SendTo and it appears in the menu. Reach the folder fastest with shell:SendTo in the Run dialog. Changes apply instantly with no restart, which makes this one of the cheapest Windows customizations there is.
Where Windows stores this, by platform
%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo
One shortcut per Send to entry. Open it with shell:SendTo in Run. Dropping new shortcuts here updates the menu immediately.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a folder to Send to?
Open shell:SendTo in Run, then paste a shortcut to the folder inside. It appears in the Send to menu at once, no restart needed.
My Send to menu is missing entries. Where did they go?
Their shortcuts left the SendTo folder, often after profile migrations or cleanup tools. Recreate the shortcuts in the folder and the entries return.
