Where Does Wrye Bash Store Mods and Settings?

Wrye Bash stages installers in [Game] Mods\Bash Installers beside the game, with settings in Mopy\bash.ini and profiles in Documents.

Last updated

Wrye Bash organizes mods outside the game Data folder on purpose. Installer archives stage in Bash Installers inside a [Game] Mods directory beside the game, keeping downloads, install state, and load order data together. The Mopy folder holds the app itself plus bash.ini with path choices.

Game profiles and INI tweaks fan out further: load-order profiles into Documents, tweak files into Data\INI Tweaks. That spread is why partial backups fail. The ini file plus the Mods tree plus the profile files form the complete set.

Where Wrye Bash stores this, by platform

Windows
[GameFolder] Mods\Bash Installers

Installer archives plus the Bash subfolder with install order data (Installers.dat). Created on first run beside the game; redirect with sOblivionMods when the default spot does not suit.

Windows
[WryeBash]\Mopy\bash.ini

Path choices (game location, mods root, data dirs) live here once copied from bash_default.ini. Bash reads the -o argument first, this file second, Mopy position third.

Frequently asked questions

What do I back up to migrate a Wrye Bash setup?

Copy bash.ini from Mopy plus the whole [Game] Mods tree. The ini records game path and directory choices; the Mods tree holds installers, order data, and mod data together.

Bash cannot find my game. How do I point it?

Copy bash_default.ini to bash.ini in Mopy and set sOblivionPath to the game folder. Bash otherwise guesses from the Mopy location, the command line, or the registry, in that order.
