Where Does X2Go Client Store Sessions?
X2Go Client stores sessions in home .x2goclient sessions on Unix and the registry on Windows. Override with flags.
Last updated
X2Go Client splits session storage by OS. Unix builds (Linux and Mac) use a sessions file under home .x2goclient. Windows installed mode writes to the registry under the vendor key, while portable mode falls back to a sessions text file.
Flags reshape all of it. The home flag relocates the whole settings tree and session conf names an alternate profile file. Broker setups fetch profiles from the server instead, ignoring local key paths. Shared folder exports and published apps ride in the same profiles.
Where X2Go stores this, by platform
/home/<username>/.x2goclient/sessions
Session profiles file on Linux and Mac. INI style sections per session with host, user, keys, and display options.
/Users/<username>/.x2goclient/sessions
Same sessions file on Mac. SSH keys referenced inside usually live in home ssh, so migrate both.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Obviously Nice\x2goclient\sessions
Installed Windows sessions in the registry. Export the key to move machines. Portable mode uses a text file instead.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move X2Go sessions?
Copy the sessions file to the same path on the new machine. Keys referenced by path need copying too, or sessions fail to auth.
Can I keep sessions in a custom file?
Launch with the session conf flag pointing at an alternate file. Portable mode plus this flag keeps sticks self contained.
