Where Does Xandikos Store Data?

Xandikos serves collections straight from a directory of CalDAV files named by the -d flag on launch.

Last updated

Xandikos keeps no separate database. It serves CalDAV and CardDAV directly from a directory tree of .ics and .vcf files. The launch flag names that root, with one subfolder per principal and collection.

Git can version the tree since everything is plain text. Authentication wraps the server through configured backends. Back up the root folder with any wrapper configs for full restores.

Plain .ics and .vcf files served directly, named by the launch flag. No database involved. Version the tree in git for history.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Xandikos?

Copy the data root folder with the launch wrapper configs. Text formats restore by copying back. Clients resync from these files.

Where is Xandikos config?

In launch flags and wrapper service files rather than a config file. Data root, port, and auth backend all arrive as arguments. Keep the unit file with backups.
