Where Does Zabbix Store Config and History?
Zabbix splits config across /etc/zabbix and history in its database. Back up both plus any custom scripts and media types.
Last updated
Zabbix keeps file config and database config in parallel. Server, agent, and proxy settings live as files under /etc/zabbix. Hosts, templates changed in the UI, and all history live in the database.
Restores need both halves. Files alone lose every host added through the frontend. Dumps alone lose tuned server settings. Copy the folder and schedule dumps, then either half can fail safely.
Where Zabbix stores this, by platform
/etc/zabbix
Server, agent, and proxy configs plus custom scripts. Version this folder. UI-made changes are not here.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up Zabbix?
Dump the database and copy /etc/zabbix plus custom alert scripts and frontend tweaks. The DB holds history and config made in the UI, files hold server and agent settings.
Where is the Zabbix agent config?
Agent config sits at /etc/zabbix/zabbix_agentd.conf with UserParameter lines. Server config is zabbix_server.conf in the same folder.
Where are Zabbix logs?
Check the server log, commonly /var/log/zabbix/zabbix_server.log. Agent logs sit beside it. Both name the failing check plainly.
